Not necessarily, it's just an option if somebody wants the patches to be
cross-reviewed before sending them out to lkml. It may be helpful when the
bugs are not trivial.

This mailing list can also be a discussion place for patches if email
interface is more preferable than Gitlab.

No problem. There are many subtleties in backporting process. Thank you
